Féile an Dóilín was established in An Cheathrú Rua, Co. Galway, Ireland, in 1977, as a key part of the then Galway Hooker revival. It is the oldest Galway Hooker festival and regatta in the country.
Féile an Dóilín wasn't long establishing itself as the largest in Connemara. Féile an Dóilín 2007 was the biggest ever, with the largest gathering of Galway Hookers on the Irish coast, and thousands attending the various events.
A decision was taken in 2008 to greatly expand the festival, and to run it over two weekends. Maritime events will be held during the traditional Dóilín date of the August bank holiday, with a new community festival coming onstreet in September.
Féile an Dóilín has a number of core aims since its establishment:
- to promote the area's maritime heritage
- that the public participate in maritime events
- that events are organised on land and sea
- that Irish is the language of the festival
We hope you take the opportunity to attend this year's Féile an Dóilín, and if you have any recommendation or complaint, feel free to contact us using the contact form.
